X Fluent is a Chrome extension that translates what you type on X, and xfluent.app is its website. This page says what each of them does with your data. In short: your drafts are never saved, and nothing is sold or used for anything else.

Your account

You sign in on xfluent.app with Google or with a code sent to your email. Your account is your email address: X Fluent keeps no password and no account database. With Google, we only receive your email address and the fact that Google verified it (Google's privacy policy applies). With a code, your address is sent to Resend, which delivers the email. Your sign-in is a token signed by our server, kept in a cookie on xfluent.app and in the extension's storage until you sign out.

The Chrome extension

What it sends. When X Fluent is on and you pause while typing in X's post or reply box, the text in that box is sent to the X Fluent server (xfluent.app), which passes it to the OpenAI API to be translated and sends the translation back. If the back-translation check is on, the translation is sent once more so the bubble can show what it says in your language. Only that text is sent, with the languages you chose and the words never to translate that appear in it. The X Fluent server neither stores nor logs your text; it only counts how many posts and replies each account translates in a day (each under a random number, never its text), to apply the daily limits and prevent abuse, and that count is erased the next day. X Fluent asks OpenAI not to store the response (store: false). OpenAI handles requests under its privacy policy and API terms.

Subscription check. About once an hour while you use X Fluent, the server asks Stripe, with your account's email, whether your subscription is active, and keeps nothing.

What it stores. Your settings (languages, delay, bubble style, words never to translate, style options) are kept in Chrome's storage, on your computer only, with your sign-in. What earlier versions kept (an OpenAI key, a purchase identifier) is erased when X Fluent updates. Your drafts and translations are never written to disk and X Fluent keeps no history; a translation stays in memory for five minutes at most, so the same text isn't sent twice.

What it doesn't do. It only works in X's post and reply box on x.com and twitter.com. Apart from the language X detected for the post you reply to (used only if you turn on “Match the post’s language”), it reads nothing else on the page. It has no analytics or tracking, shows no ads and never posts anything for you.

The website

Payments. Subscriptions are handled by Stripe, which acts as the seller of record through Stripe Managed Payments and Link. The payment page is tied to your account's email. We receive your name, email and the amount paid, never your card details.

Cookie. The site sets a single cookie, only once you sign in, to keep you signed in for 180 days or until you sign out. It sets no advertising or tracking cookies.

Beta list. If you joined the beta list, we keep the email and details you gave in a Google Sheet, used only for X Fluent news.

Waiting list. Until X Fluent is on the Chrome Web Store, you can leave your email on xfluent.app to be told when it is. Your address is kept by Resend, which sends a confirmation right away and then that one email, and it is used for nothing else. You can unsubscribe in one click from the launch email, or ask us to remove you at any time at contact@xfluent.app.

Hosting. The site and its server are hosted by Vercel, which keeps standard technical logs.

Changes

If X Fluent ever changes what it sends or where it sends it, this page will be updated before that happens.
